About Us
Karalaite Kennels started with the owner’s love of Collies and their slightly smaller brethren, the Shetland Sheepdog.
During the last 40 years, the owners have concentrated on the smaller Shetland Sheepdog. The kennel actually came into existence when George and Madeline decided that their number of Shelties (4) had outgrown their home in the city of Grand Forks. The kennel started in the summer of 1976 when the couple, their four children, and four Shelties moved from the city to the area north of Grand Forks. Madeline bred and raised the Shelties, and George showed them for many years at AKC conformation and obedience shows, winning many titles.
We are located in an area surrounded by a Prairie Chicken Preserve used by the state of North Dakota to help restore the Prairie Chicken. Being surrounded by several thousand acres of wildlife preserve is an ideal setting for our facility.
